About

Mountain house design: comfort, warmth and landscape

Homes for living in the highlands all year round, comfortable on the coldest days.

We design houses in the highlands of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, in towns such as Urubici, Urupema, Rancho Queimado, Gramado and Passo Fundo, built for the cold of these regions and to make the most of each plot's view.

01

Country houses to live in or escape to in the highlands

A weekend country house, a winter second home or the main house on a property with cabins: every project starts from how the family wants to live in the highlands, the land, often sloping, and the view.

02

A house designed around the climate

In the highlands, design starts with the cold. South-facing façades get no sun even in summer, prevailing winds define the openings and insulating walls and roofs is essential. Thermally efficient windows with double glazing allow generous openings without losing heat.

Underfloor heating, fireplaces or wood stoves are defined at the design stage, together with the insulation. Learn more about our mountain architecture strategies.

03

Terraces, fireplaces and fire pits

Living in the highlands also means enjoying the outdoors on cold days. Wind-sheltered terraces, decks facing the sunset and fire pits extend the house into the landscape.

Stone, wood and glass create a rustic, contemporary way of living, with materials that age well and suit the nature of the place.

04

Mountain houses in light steel frame or modular

Light steel frame and modular construction are especially useful in the highlands: the structure is light, insulation sits inside the walls and construction is faster and cleaner, which makes a difference on remote, hard-to-reach plots.

Gran Chalé, built in light steel frame, was featured in ONNE & ONLY magazine. For smaller retreats, see our cabins and tiny houses.

How your mountain house project works

Every project is closely managed by our team, led by architect Patrícia Chimiti:

  1. An initial conversation to understand your ideas, the site, timeline and budget.
  2. A preliminary design with site layout and 3D images, so you can see the house before building it.
  3. Construction documents developed in BIM and coordinated with the engineering disciplines.
  4. Choosing the most suitable construction system for the project, with expertise in light steel frame, modular and SIP.

FAQ

Mountain house design: frequently asked questions

Do you design houses in Urubici?

Yes. Casa Montez, Casa DP and the Aconchego and Vistta chalets are in Urubici. We also have projects in Rancho Queimado, Urupema and other towns in the Santa Catarina highlands.

Can a mountain house have large windows?

Yes. With thermally efficient frames, proper seals and double glazing, the house keeps its view of the landscape and stays comfortable in winter.

Does a mountain house need underfloor heating?

It is the most recommended system for everyday comfort. When the budget does not allow it, wood, carpet or vinyl floors with rugs are good alternatives, combined with a fireplace or wood stove.

Does light steel frame work in the highland cold?

Yes, very well. Walls and ceilings are fitted with thermal and acoustic insulation, and construction is faster and cleaner. Gran Chalé, featured in ONNE & ONLY magazine, is an example of a light steel frame mountain house.

How do I start my mountain house project?

Talk to our team on WhatsApp or through the contact form. In the first conversation we learn about your ideas, the site and timeline, and explain the next steps.
